The Western States Center has been so important to the social justice work that I’ve done in Montana over the last few years that it's difficult to pull out isolated moments or stories. The staff is always there to offer guidance during good times and tough times. The positive impacts that come from training opportunities, and the ability to meet and get to know other people doing similar work in the region really cannot be overstated. One thing that I talk about often is the “Mapping the Margins” workshop at CSTI two years ago. It was the type of experience that really changed how I think about the work that I do, how my work intersects with those working in different issue areas, and how the way that we frame issues and approach campaigns affects everyone in this movement. Building on my analysis and becoming more and more thoughtful about the work I do is always the goal. Moira, Kalpana and the whole Western States Center staff have consistently been there to support me when I needed support and challenge me when I needed to be challenged. It has made me better at what I do and I know that it will continue to in the years to come. So happy 21st, now that you’re legal I’ll buy you a drink.
