When I think of the Center, it is not a specific person or event that comes to mind, but more a feeling of belonging to a broader community. When I get an update about the VOTE project or gender justice program, or meet someone who went through CSTI, I feel connected to a larger movement for social change—including those who have come before and those who will come after. There is a passage by W. Somerset Maugham (from The Moon and Sixpence, which I admit I have never read), that describes the feeling: "Sometimes a man hits upon a place to which he mysteriously feels that he belongs. Here is the home he sought, and he will settle amid scenes that he has never seen before, among men he has never known, as though they were familiar to him from his birth. Here at last he finds rest."
Happy 21st and many happy returns!
