I got to go to CSTI because someone I was working on a project with recommended me. I almost turned her down because I thought I should let someone who has not had as many opportunities as I have go. Then I read the program. Forget that! I said sign me up.

I have many good memories and stories that I could share in relation to Western States' amazing trainings and programs, but the one I will focus on is my very first community organizing. It was a 2 or 3 day introduction to social change organizing led by the Western States staff. I was at that time a volunteer doing assorted odds and ends for the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada.

21 years, easy to say but... Escribir en español entre organizadores del NW es un gran logro obtenido gracias al apoyo de ustedes. I will never forget how comfortable all the Western States Center staff made me feel back on 1996.

My first CSTI (Community Strategic Training Initiative) was in 1994 when I was visitng from New York and the focus was on "Fighting the Right". I recall that Loretta Ross and other major thinkers and visionaries were sharing their experiences and strategies to help us foresee and respond to this massive onslought to our rioghts and democracy.

Western States Center incubated PLAN in 1993-4, and we've been close allies ever since. The Center's success in building leaders in Nevada and throughout the west has been a huge boost to our movement. Thanks for all you've done and happy 21st!

I first came in contact with the Western States Center during 2003 during the National Voice (or November 2 Campaign).

I had the pleasure to work at Western States Center through New Voices Fellowship from 2005-2007. I credit Western States Center and my New Voices Fellowship for giving me the United States context for community organizing.
