Western States Center incubated PLAN in 1993-4, and we've been close allies ever since. The Center's success in building leaders in Nevada and throughout the west has been a huge boost to our movement. Thanks for all you've done and happy 21st!

I first came in contact with the Western States Center during 2003 during the National Voice (or November 2 Campaign).

A number of years ago, the Western States Center asked me to join Eric Ward to do a workshop at CSTI on the Arab/Israeli conflict. As a Jew who opposes the Occupation and the Israeli settlements, but who was also concerned about apologists for antisemitism among progressive colleagues, I found it a really scary prospect.

In 2007, after several terms as The Center's board chair, and more than 10 total years as a board member, I was able to retire, and was moved up to Board Emerita. I am proud of our excellent trend-spotting, coalition building, issues analysis, and organizational engagement– work that continues to be pertinent, current, leading edge and critical to building real community in the West.

When I think of the Center, it is not a specific person or event that comes to mind, but more a feeling of belonging to a broader community. When I get an update about the VOTE project or gender justice program, or meet someone who went through CSTI, I feel connected to a larger movement for social change—including those who have come before and those who will come after.
